Episode 17: Experiences of Leadership with Sir Pritpal Singh

Sir Pritpal Singh sits down with Matthew for a conversation about leadership. Old school friends, they talk about the challenges of leadership roles within education and Pritpal's life experiences in leadership roles.

Sir Pritpal Singh is the son of Lt Colonel Dr Gurbuxsh Singh and Vidya Vati, he is married with two sons and was awarded a knighthood in 2005.

Pritpal's career started as a chemistry teacher in 1979 at Feltham School before taking on leadership roles within different schools, including Head of Science at The Vyne School, Deputy Head at Cranford Community School and Head Teacher at Drayton Manor High School. He is now retired.

In 2004 he won the Promethean Award for Head Teacher of the Year.

He has also taken roles in the following organisations:

  • Joint Director at the London Leadership Strategy 2005–06

  • Non-executive Director, East Berkshire NHS Trust 1999–2001

  • Member of Education Committee, Royal Society 2003–04

  • Chair of National Awards Panel, PTA-UK (formerly National Confederation of PTAs) 2010-13
